Critical situation of the building and zeal for "being the exchanging base of the local community "
It has been 74 years since the Kure YWCA became an activity base for our community. The exact year of construction is unknown. Some experts say it may be over 100 years. We continue to investigate the details. Various parts of the wooden structure are damaged. To survive as a "place where people gather and interact" we need to restore and protect this amazing structure. Significant renovations need to be made. A few years ago, we considered the financial and personal perspectives of renovation. We pondered the continued use of the building. Should it be demolished? Sold? Should the YWCA move to another location? As we contemplated our options more and more members came forward. They told us, "This place was a source of emotional support," and "This is an important place."
We want our building, having witnessed history, to continue to be a valuable place for our community. We have decided to protect it.
The goal of this crowdfunding effort is 3 million yen. The money will go towards the renovation cost of the Kure YWCA "Kaikan Century Project." We will repair and refurbish the restrooms and multipurpose community space.
The renovation work will be carried out in several phases. Phase one, starting February, will reinforce the main entrance and portions of the upstairs floor. For this phase, we will use the reserves collected by members, donations, and subsidies.
As the Kure YWCA celebrates its centennial anniversary in April 2048, it will provide a safe and comfortable gathering place for children and adults.
