プロジェクト概要

約一世紀ぶりに行われた、神前での刀剣奉納。
そのすべての制作過程を記録したドキュメンタリー映画を制作しています。

舞台は、刀剣の古都・備前長船（現・岡山県瀬戸内市）。
鍛冶と製鉄の神・天目一箇神を祀る靱負（ゆきえ）神社で、大正十四年以来となる「神前打ち」の奉納刀が作られることになりました。

靱負神社

玉鋼を神に捧げ、
神殿の前で鋼を鍛え、
その鋼から一振りの太刀を打ち、祭神に奉納する。

約一年にわたる、この神事と作刀の全工程。
本作は、その貴重な時間を記録した映画です。

About this project

This project aims to create a documentary film that follows a year in the life of a swordsmith working in Japan as he crafts a sword to be dedicated to a shrine dedicated to the god of blacksmithing.
This is a rare event that has not been held in nearly a century.
The film also aims to get to the heart of what modern swordsmiths think about when they craft swords.

Kazuki Kawashima, the swordsmith who appears in this film, says, "I don't make weapons."
These words are difficult to understand even for Japanese people, for whom Japanese swords have disappeared from everyday life 150 years ago.

So what exactly is a Japanese sword? I would like to consider this question with you all.

明治九年（1876年）の廃刀令から約150年。
日本刀は、日常から遠い存在になりました。

美術品として、
伝統文化として、
あるいは映像作品の中の象徴として…

それらは確かに刀の持つ大事な一面です。
しかし、かつて刀は「祈り」や「覚悟」、「生き方」と
密接につながった存在でもありました。

奉納刀を打つ川島刀匠の姿を撮影する中で、
鋼や火が“何かを語りかけている”
そしてそれに川島刀匠が耳を澄まし、手を動かし、応答する。
そんなやりとりがあるような感覚を覚えたのです。

The Soul of Japan

Even today, Japanese swords preserved for hundreds of years exist in Japan.
They are treasured heirlooms and symbols, protected for generations.
Even around the world, it is rare to find a steel product that has been so beautifully preserved for such a long time.
The swordsmiths who create these swords pour their hearts into crafting them for their owners (and their descendants).
The swordsmith's process is like a dialogue between the steel, the charcoal flames, and the water and clay used in the crafting process.
They need to listen to these "voices" in order to infuse their hearts into the sword.
Only in this way can a Japanese sword truly be called the soul of Japan.

映画『揺らぎの聲（こえ）』のタイトルについて

本作は、刀剣制作の工程を記録するだけの作品ではありません。
タイトルには、物が発する声に耳を澄ませ、それに応えようとする刀匠の姿を重ねています。

向き合う時間

それらを丁寧に積み重ね、川島刀匠が願うことを映像に刻み付けようと思っております。

監督の私は、刀剣や武術とは無縁の人間です。

しかし川島刀匠の仕事を見て、ただ素直に「すごい」と感じる。
それは刀匠の気持ちが、明らかに強く伝わってくるからです。

川島刀匠は言います。「みんなが刀を持てば、世界は平和になる」

最初は理解できませんでした。けれど、その言葉の奥にある
“高み”の存在を、少しでも知りたいと思うようになったのです。

この映画は、答えを与える作品ではありません。

ただ、「どうやら、こういう世界があるらしい」という気配を、観る人と共有したい。

そのための記録です。

主役・監督略歴

刀鍛冶・川島 一城(かわしま かずき)
Kazuki Kawashima: Japanese Swordsmith

1970(昭45)年、高知県安芸市生まれ。家は代々鍛冶屋であり、子供の頃より家業を手伝う。

高校卒業後、岐阜県関市・中田正直師に師事、後に備前伝の刀剣製作を目指す為、無鑑査刀匠　吉原國家刀匠ついて備前伝を勉強。その後備前長船博物館鍛刀場を経て自身の工房・川島正城日本刀鍛錬場を長船の地に設立。

鎌倉～南北朝期に隆盛を誇った備前伝福岡一文字派の華やかな刀剣製作を目標にし、作刀の日々を送る。東京やフランス・パリ等、国内外を問わず彼の刀には人気があり、彼への作刀依頼も絶えない。また人に寄り添うものづくりにも取り組み、彼の打つ包丁を愛用する人も多い。

Born in 1970 in Aki City, Kochi Prefecture. His family has been blacksmiths for generations, and he has helped out in the business since childhood.

After graduating from high school, he studied under Master Nakata Masanao in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture. He later studied Bizen-den swords under unexamined swordsmith Yoshiwara Kuniie, with the aim of forging Bizen-den swords. He then worked at the Bizen Osafune Museum Swordsmith Workshop before establishing his own workshop, the Kawashima Masashiro Japanese Sword Forging Workshop in Osafune.

He spends his days crafting swords, aiming to create the ornate Fukuoka Ichimonji style of Bizen-den swords, which flourished from the 13th to 15th centuries. His swords are popular both at home and abroad, from Tokyo to Paris, France, and he receives a constant stream of requests to forge swords. He also strives to create products that are in tune with the individual, and his knives are beloved by many.

監督/音楽・にしやまゆうき

1981年、兵庫県赤穂郡生まれ。作編曲家としてデビュー後、映像制作やドローンオペレーターとして映像の現場にも立つようになる。

2025年、初監督作品となったドキュメンタリー映画『みんなのふね』リリース。劇中音楽の作編曲・演奏も手掛ける。この作品がLA Film and Documentary Award(アメリカ)、Global Independent Film Festival India(インド)等、7つの映画祭で受賞、公式選出。

Born in Ako District, Hyogo Prefecture in 1981. After debuting as a composer and arranger, he began working on set in film production and as a drone operator.

In 2025, he released his directorial debut, the documentary film "Minna: A Boat for Everyone" for which he also composed, arranged, and performed the film's music. This work won awards and was officially selected at seven film festivals, including the LA Film and Documentary Award (USA) and the Global Independent Film Festival India (India).

The purpose of this crowdfunding

Filming of the dedication ceremony and the sword-making process has already been completed.
However, to complete the film, many steps remain,

Why aren't Japanese swords and knives designated for overseas use?
This crowdfunding campaign features Japanese swords (short swords and daggers) for use within Japan.
The reason we do not have Japanese swords for overseas markets is that there are countries that have restrictions or prohibit the import of Japanese swords.

Furthermore, whether your country allows the possession of Japanese swords must be determined individually for each country, and it is difficult for us living in Japan to find out these conditions.
For this reason, if you would like to purchase a Japanese sword as a return item on this page, you will need to complete the import procedures and possession permit application procedures yourself with your country's local government.
If you apply for a Japanese sword return item without sufficient confirmation and are unable to export it, we cannot take responsibility, and since we have already produced the sword, we will not be able to provide a refund.

守り刀とは、何なのか。

この疑問を問い始めたのは、二十歳のころでした。
神仏を尊ぶ家系に生まれ育ち、「守り刀」という存在は、感覚的には理解しているつもりでした。
しかし私は、ずっと思い続けてきました。
――この意味を、物理的に理解したい、と。

原子や素粒子、水が情報を持ち、振動に共振しやすい性質を持つことを学ぶうちに、私は一つの仮説を抱くようになりました。
人の思考は電磁的な性質を帯び、対象物に共振作用を及ぼすのではないか。

このことは、まだ科学的に実証されたものではありません。オカルト的とも言われます。
しかし、コップの水に意識を集中させることで、その変化を体感するなどの経験を重ねるなかで、私の中である確信が芽生えました。
人の意識は、何らかのかたちで物質に影響を与えている、と。

この映画の撮影が始まった当初、ここまでの思索を作品に盛り込むつもりはありませんでした。到底理解してもらえるとも思えず、ただ作刀工程を映像として残す程度で良いという、軽い気持ちだったのです。

ところが、撮影の合間に監督と話を重ねるうち、この思いも伝えられる映像になるのではないか?と思うようになったのです。私は嬉しくなって、次々と自分の考えを語るようになりました。その対話は、私自身の思索もさらに深めてくれました。

『揺らぎの聲』というタイトルも、監督が付けてくれたものです。当初は、炎の揺らぎを指しているのだと思っていました。しかし、監督は、「原子の揺らぎ、その状態を見つめながら刀を作っていると川島刀匠が話してくれた。その感覚をタイトルに反映したんです」と教えてくれました。

この瞬間、私は深い驚きと感動を覚えました。この映画を撮ってくれるのがこの監督で本当に良かった――心からそう思いました。

私は、出会う方々に「僕は武器を作っているわけではない」と言います。
それは、愛の振動を刀に込めているからです。

日本人は古来より、丁寧に生きてきました。
その所作も、心の向き合い方も、すべては「愛」(または「仁」)を伝える行為だったのだと思います。

そして日本刀は、世界のあらゆるアートや工芸品の中でも、とりわけ強く、その振動を内包している存在です。

日本刀とは、日本人の生き方そのものが凝縮された「心」なのではないでしょうか。

この想いを、映像という形で、世界の人々に届けたい。
それが、私の願いです。

What is a "Mamorikatana" (protective sword)?

I began asking this question around the age of 20.
Born and raised in a family that reveres gods and Buddhas, Japanese swords still exist today as "protective swords," and I thought I understood this intuitively.
However, I had always wondered:
—I wanted to understand this meaning physically.

Learning that atoms, elementary particles, and water contain information and have the property of easily resonating with vibrations, I began to have a hypothesis:
Perhaps human thoughts possess electromagnetic properties and have a resonant effect on objects.

This has not yet been scientifically proven. Some have even said it is occult.
However, through repeated experiences, such as focusing my attention on a glass of water and experiencing the changes, a certain conviction began to grow within me:
That human consciousness influences matter in some way.

When filming for this film began, I had no intention of incorporating such speculation into the work. I didn't think anyone would understand, so I was just thinking that it would be enough to simply record the sword-making process on film.

However, as I talked with the director in between shoots, I began to think that perhaps the film could convey these feelings as well. I was delighted, and began to share my thoughts one after another. This conversation also deepened my own reflections.

The Japanese title, "Voice of fluctuating" (Voice of Katana in English), was also given by the director. At first, I thought it referred to the flickering of flames(it's the same words in Japanese). However, the director told me, "You told me that he makes swords while observing the fluctuating state of atoms. I reflected that feeling in the title."

At that moment, I was deeply surprised and moved. I was truly glad that this director was the one to make this film -- that was my heartfelt feeling.

I tell everyone I meet, "I don't make weapons."
That's because I infuse the vibrations of love into my swords.

Since ancient times, Japanese people have lived with care.
I believe that their actions and attitudes are all acts of conveying "love" (or "benevolence").

And of all the art and crafts in the world, Japanese swords embody this vibration more strongly than any other.

Perhaps the Japanese sword is the "heart" that embodies the very way of life of the Japanese people.

I want to convey this feeling to people all over the world in the form of video.
That is my wish.

Q1. 本当に映画は完成しますか？

はい、完成させる前提で進行しています。

本作は、奉納神事および奉納刀の制作過程の撮影をすでに完了しています。クラウドファンディングは「ゼロから始める」ためのものではなく、完成度を高め、正式な映画作品として仕上げるための最終工程です。

また本プロジェクトは All or Nothing方式 です。目標金額に達しなかった場合はご支援金は全額返金されます。映画制作は遅延・縮小しますが、無理のない範囲で進めてまいります。

Q2. 刀や刃物を扱うリターンは、法的に問題ありませんか？

問題ありません。銃砲と異なり、刀剣類は必要な手続きを完了するだけで所有可能です。

短刀・脇差には銃砲刀剣類登録証が付属します。そして岡山県教育委員会への所有者変更手続きを行っていただければ、問題なくお渡し・所有が可能です(ご自身でのお手続きが必要です)。

法律に則った正規の方法でお渡ししますのでご安心ください。

Q3. 高額リターン購入後に、内容の相談はできますか？

はい、可能です。

特に短刀・脇差の銘などについては、クラウドファンディング成立後に個別にご相談させていただきます。

ただし、意匠そのものについては刀匠・川島一城の裁量を尊重する形となります。それも含めて、このリターンの価値だとお考えください。

Q4. 刀鍛冶の世界は敷居が高そうで不安です。

そのお気持ちは、とても自然なものです。

実際、本作の監督自身が「刀剣や武術と無縁の立場」から、この映画を撮っています。

川島刀匠は、専門知識がない方にも、驚くほど丁寧に向き合ってくださる方ですし、海外からご訪問される方にも真摯にご対応されています。必要なのは知識や経験ではなく、「関心」だけです。

Q5. 見学や懇親会で、何をすればいいか分かりません。

特別な準備や振る舞いは必要ありません。

Q6. 海外在住でも高額リターンに支援できますか？

ご支援自体は可能です(クレジットカードのみ)。

ただし、システムの都合上、支援の際は日本国内の住所を入れて頂き、後程実際の住所をプレゼンターに連絡する必要があります。

また、

ドキュメンタリー映画という性質上、編集や考証に時間を要する可能性があります。

その場合も、進捗状況を定期的にご報告し、完成まで責任を持って制作を続けます。

完成予定時期が変更となる場合は、事前に必ずご案内いたします。

Q1. Will the film really be completed?

Yes, we are proceeding with the assumption that it will be completed.

Filming of the offering ritual and the process of making the votive sword has already been completed. Crowdfunding is not an attempt to "start from scratch," but rather a final step toward improving the film's quality and completing it as an official film.

This project is also all-or-nothing. If the fundraising goal is not reached, all donations will be refunded. Production may be delayed or scaled back, but we will continue to proceed as reasonably possible.

We are currently working on an English-subtitled version, scheduled for release around June 2027. However, this requires a separate budget, so completion may be delayed.

Q2. Can I import swords and other bladed items?

It depends on the laws of your country regarding Japanese swords and other bladed items.
If you intend to import or possess one, be sure to research your country's laws and find a way to do so. Cancellations cannot be made due to import restrictions or other reasons.
Also, drawing a Japanese sword in front of others is not considered proper Japanese sword etiquette. Because it is very sharp, you need to handle it with care, and unless you're an expert, it's best to avoid trying to cut something with it.

Q3. I'm worried that the world of swordsmithing seems intimidating.

That feeling is very natural.

In fact, the director himself made this film from a position that "has no connection to swords or martial arts."

Swordsmith Kawashima is incredibly attentive to those without specialized knowledge, and he also sincerely responds to visitors from overseas. All you need is interest, not knowledge or experience.

Q4. Can I support a high-value return even if I live overseas?

You can support (credit card only).

However, due to system limitations, you will need to enter a Japanese address when supporting, and you will need to inform the presenter of your actual address later.

We recommend choosing an option that says "Overseas." However, it is not impossible to apply by choosing an option that says Japanese. However,

Due to the nature of documentary films, editing and historical research may require time.

Even in such cases, we will regularly report on progress and continue production responsibly until completion.
