Janko Timotej
ティモテイ・ヤンコはスロバキア出身、現在東京を拠点に活動するアーティスト。写真と映画撮影を学び、ヨーロッパの映画業界で活動した後、世界各地を旅しながら制作を続けている。カメラ・オブスクラ、8mmフィルム、ゼラチンシルバープリントなどの感光性プロセスを用い、写真、映像、スポークンワードの領域を横断しながら表現活動を行っている。 現在は、間、幽玄、物の哀れ、侘び寂びといった日本の美意識に着目し、自身の作品制作の中で探求している。作品では、時間の知覚や反復、習慣、記憶をテーマに探求を続けている。九州でのアーティスト・イン・レジデンス参加および展示を経て、現在は東京での新たな展覧会を準備している。

2026年8月、東京でティモテイ・ヤンコの展覧会を開催します。どなたでも無料でご来場いただけます。九州でのアーティスト・イン・レジデンスから生まれた作品と、8mm映画の上映、ライブ音楽、料理の試食をぜひお楽しみください。

「4年間、毎週月曜日は何も食べませんでした。2年間、毎朝目が覚めるとすぐに1時間、外を歩き続けました。1年間、毎日1時間、紙に印刷された文字だけを読み続けました。」
「こうした習慣は、刺激や情報であふれた現代を生きるなかで、自分自身の感覚を見失わないための大切な支えになっています。そして私は、私のまわりにいる皆さんがどう考えているのかにも興味があります。皆さんは日々をどのように過ごしていますか。立ち止まるきっかけになっているものは何ですか。目を覚ますような瞬間はありますか。あるいは、自分なりの実践や精神的な規律を育てていますか。」
ティモテイ・ヤンコはヨーロッパの小国・スロバキア出身で、現在は日本を拠点に活動しています。写真を学んだ後、映画大学で撮影を専攻しました。その後、ヨーロッパの映画業界で5年以上カメラマンとして活動し、妻とともに世界を旅することを決意しました。
本プロジェクトでは、その制作実践が「間」「幽玄」「もののあはれ」「侘び寂び」といった日本の美意識と対話しながら、それらを探究し、発展し続ける自身の表現へと取り入れています。
旅を続けるなかで、ティモテイは訪れたさまざまな国や異なる文化的背景を持つ人々の声を録音し、収集するようになりました。しかし、それはインタビューではありません。参加者には一人で部屋に入り、録音機材の前で、自分自身に語りかけるように自由に独白してもらいました。日々の暮らしの中で何を感じ、世界をどのように受け止めているのか。時間をどのように生き、記憶しているのか。そして、記憶がどのように生まれ、変化し、やがて少しずつ薄れていくのかについて語ってもらいました。
「私は作品制作において、ピンホールカメラ（カメラ・オブスクラ）を使っています。どの国でも、身近な紙箱から新たに作ることができるためです。そのおかげで、多くの撮影機材を持ち運ぶ必要がありません。さまざまな感光材料を用いて実験を重ね、ほとんどどこでも設営できる暗室で、一枚一枚手作業で現像しています。」
本プロジェクトは、九州でのアーティスト・イン・レジデンス期間中に本格的に制作が進められ、その創作プロセスには地域の人々も参加しました。
福岡県では、Studio Kuraの協力のもと一般向けのワークショップを開催しました。参加者は作家とともに暗室で作品を制作し、一人ひとりが完成したプリントを一枚、ワークショップの成果であり思い出として持ち帰りました。一方で、ティモテイは参加者全員の作品を一枚ずつ保管し、本プロジェクトのアーカイブの一部としています。
「このプロジェクトで私が何より大切にしているのは、身近な人たちが自分自身の言葉で語る機会をつくることです。その思考やまなざしを見つめ、一つひとつの記録を集め、アーカイブを集団的な語りのための新たな素材として制作に取り入れています。」
2026年8月21日、THREE SPACE TOKYOにて展覧会のオープニングを開催します。展覧会はどなたでも無料でご覧いただけます。
作家ティモテイ・ヤンコは、暗室でのアナログ写真技法を用いて、一点一点異なる作品シリーズを制作しました。また、本展では東京でSuper 8フィルムを使用して撮影した映像作品も上映します。
映像作品のサウンドトラックは、作家が世界各地を旅する中で出会った人々の声から生まれました。その音源の制作には、バンコクを拠点に活動するソフトウェア開発者でありサウンドアーティストのワサワット・ソムノムが参加しています。
ワサワットは展覧会のオープニングに合わせてタイから来日し、映画で使用されている音素材をもとにしたライブ・サウンドパフォーマンスを披露します。来場者は、実際の声の録音が目の前で一つの音楽作品へと変化していくプロセスを体験することができます。
ティモテイ・ヤンコは、日本を含むさまざまな国でシェフとして働いた経験を持ち、現在はフードデュオ「dokocaajdovoza」のメンバーとしても活動しています。展覧会のオープニングでは、「dokocaajdovoza」によるフードポップアップを開催し、ご来場の皆さまに無料で料理をお楽しみいただきます。
このプロジェクトは、日常、習慣、儀式、記憶、そして私たちが時間の流れをどのように意識しているのかを、数年にわたって探究してきた成果です。展覧会タイトル『SUPPOSE WE COUNTED EVERY EDGE OF THE GRID』には、私たちが日々の暮らしの中で、本当に「見る」ことよりも、多くのものを無意識に見過ごすことに慣れてしまっているという考えが込められています。もし立ち止まり、常に新しいものを探し続ける代わりに、長い間見過ごしてきたものを丁寧に見つめ直してみたら、何が見えてくるのでしょうか。
本プロジェクトは、参加者一人ひとりが自身と向き合い、対話を生み出すきっかけとなることを目指しています。そして、写真、映像、音、食が交わる、誰もが自由に参加できる開かれた場をつくりたいと考えています。
展覧会では、以下の体験をお楽しみいただけます。
・暗室で一枚ずつ手作業で制作・現像された、オリジナルのアナログ写真作品をご覧いただけます。
・Super 8フィルムで撮影された映像作品の上映をご覧いただけます。
・8mmフィルムの映像に合わせて行われる、ライブ・サウンドパフォーマンスを体験できます。
・作品が生まれるまでの制作プロセスを知ることができます。
・オープニングのために用意された料理をお楽しみいただけます。
・作家や、同じ時間を共有する他の来場者との交流を楽しむことができます。

プロジェクトのリスクと課題
THREE SPACE TOKYOでの展覧会は、クラウドファンディングの結果にかかわらず開催いたします。
本プロジェクトは当初、国際的なアーティストの活動・交流を支援するスロバキア芸術支援基金の助成対象として採択されていました。しかし、プロジェクト実施期間中、同基金は深刻な状況や運営体制の大きな変化により、多くの進行中プロジェクトへの助成を一時停止することとなり、本プロジェクトもその対象となりました。
その結果、アーティスト・イン・レジデンスでの制作、ワークショップの実施、展覧会準備に必要な費用について、当初予定していた資金的な支援を受けることができなくなりました。
皆さまからのご支援によって、当初計画していた規模とクオリティで本プロジェクトを実現することが可能になります。今回はプロダクションファンディング（All in）での挑戦になるため、もし目標金額未達となった場合でも、不足する資金は自費で補填し、展覧会の開催を実現します。リターンも必ずお届けしますので、ご安心ください。
やむを得ない事情によりプロジェクトに変更や遅延等が発生した場合は、メールやアップデート記事にて速やかに進捗をご報告いたします。

私たちは、アートとは単に壁に飾られる完成した作品だけではないと考えています。
アートは何よりも、人と人との出会いによって生まれるものです。会話、共同制作、共有された経験、そして互いに時間や意識を向け合う人々の存在によって育まれていきます。
このプロジェクトもまた、多くの出会いによって生まれました。自分自身の考えや声を分かち合ってくださった人々との出会い。ワークショップに参加してくださった九州の皆さまとの出会い。そして、このプロジェクトの自然な一部となった、スロバキア、日本、タイのアーティストや友人たちとの出会いです。
「Grid（グリッド）」は、単なるイメージの構造や、日々私たちを取り囲む刺激の集合を意味するものではありません。それはまた、人との出会い、会話、関係性が織りなすネットワークでもあり、私たちの世界の見方を静かに形づくっています。
このプロジェクトは、まさにそのようなつながりの中から生まれました。
絶え間ないデジタル情報に囲まれる現代において、直接的な出会い、共に過ごす時間、文化を分かち合うことは、これまで以上に大切になっていると私たちは考えています。
展覧会、ライブ・サウンドパフォーマンス、そして共に味わう食事は、人々が一度立ち止まり、同じ時間を共有し、世界を少しだけ丁寧に見つめ直すための、それぞれ異なる形の場となります。

"For four years, I did not eat anything every Monday. For two years, I went for a one-hour walk outdoors every morning immediately after waking up. For one year, I spent one hour every day reading printed text."
"These and other habits have become important and meaningful ways for me to navigate the present, a time that feels oversaturated with information and constant stimulation. I am also interested in the perspectives of the people around me. How do you experience everyday life? What helps you pause and become more aware? How do you cultivate practical or spiritual discipline, and do you practice one at all?"
Timotej Janko is originally from Slovakia, a small country in Europe, and is currently based in Japan. He studied photography and later cinematography at a film university. He worked in the European film industry for more than five years before deciding to travel the world with his wife.
In his practice, this project enters into dialogue with Japanese concepts such as ma (間), yūgen (幽玄), mono no aware (物の哀れ), and wabi-sabi (侘び寂び), exploring and incorporating these ideas into his evolving artistic practice.
During his travels, he began recording and collecting the voices of people from different countries and cultural backgrounds he encountered. However, these were not interviews. Instead, participants were given the opportunity to sit alone in a room where their voices were recorded and create a monologue, a conversation with themselves about what happens around them every day and how they perceive it. They reflected on how they experience and remember time, and how memories are created, transformed, and gradually fade away.
"In my visual practice, I use a pinhole camera (camera obscura) because I can create one again in any country from a simple paper box. This allows me to travel without carrying large amounts of photographic equipment. I experiment with different light-sensitive materials and develop everything by hand in a darkroom that I can build almost anywhere."
The project was actively developed during an artist residency on the island of Kyushu, where the artist also involved local residents in the creative process.
In Fukuoka Prefecture, with the support of Studio Kura, he organized a public workshop where participants created their own images in the darkroom with guidance from the artist. Each participant took home one print as the outcome and a memory of the workshop, while Timotej kept one copy of each work as part of his personal archive.
"In this project, it is essential for me to create opportunities for the people around me to express themselves. I observe their ways of thinking, collect the individual outcomes, and then work with this archive as new material within the context of a collective narrative."
On August 21, 2026, the opening of the exhibition will take place at THREE SPACE TOKYO. The exhibition will be free and open to the public.
Using analog techniques and working in the darkroom, Timotej Janko has created a series of unique artworks. The exhibition will also include a screening of a film shot in Tokyo on 8mm film.
The film’s soundtrack was created from recordings of people from different countries whom the artist encountered during his travels around the world. For its production, he collaborated with software developer and sound artist Wasawat Somno from Bangkok. Wasawat will travel from Thailand to attend the exhibition opening, where he will present a live sound performance based on the audio materials used in the film. Visitors will be able to experience how an original sound composition emerges from authentic recordings in real time.
Timotej has also worked as a chef in several countries, including Japan, and is a member of the culinary duo dokocaajdovoza. For the exhibition opening, dokocaajdovoza will prepare a food pop-up with complimentary food tasting for all visitors.
This project is the result of several years of exploring everyday life, habits, rituals, memory, and the ways in which we become aware of the passage of time. The exhibition title, SUPPOSE WE COUNTED EVERY EDGE OF THE GRID, comes from the idea that in our daily lives we often learn to filter more than we truly perceive. What would happen if we paused for a moment and, instead of constantly searching for something new, tried to carefully observe what we have long overlooked?
The aim of this project is to create an opportunity for personal reflection and shared dialogue, while also providing an open space where photography, film, sound, and gastronomy can come together.
At the exhibition, you will be able to:

• Experience a live sound performance accompanying the 8mm film screening.

Risks and Challenges
The exhibition at THREE SPACE TOKYO will take place regardless of the outcome of the crowdfunding campaign.
This project was originally supported by a grant from the Slovak Arts Council for international artistic mobility. However, during the implementation of the project, the fund suspended financial support for many ongoing projects, including this one, due to a critical situation and significant changes in its operations. As a result, the planned financial support for the artist residency, workshop, and exhibition preparation was no longer available.
With your support, we will be able to realize the project at the quality and scale originally envisioned. This campaign uses the Production Funding (All in) model. Even if we do not reach our funding goal, we will cover any remaining costs with our own funds and ensure that the exhibition takes place. All rewards will also be fulfilled, so you can support the project with confidence.
If unavoidable circumstances result in any changes or delays to the project, we will promptly keep you informed via email or project updates.

The grid does not represent only the structure of an image or the network of stimuli that surrounds us every day. It is also a network of human encounters, conversations, and relationships that quietly shape the way we perceive the world. This project is the result of such a network.
We believe that in a time of constant digital overload, personal encounters, shared experiences, and collective culture are more important than ever. The exhibition, live sound performance, and shared food are all different ways of creating a space where people can pause for a moment, be together, and look at the world with greater attention.
