新型コロナウイルス感染拡大の影響で打撃を受けている花卉業界と、悲しみに沈む社会にいけばなでエールを送るために、皆様の応援をお願い致します！

We ask you for your warm support to send hearty cheers to the flower industry impacted by the spread of COVID-19 and also to the society filled with uncertainty from the pandemic!

はじめに(Introduction)

この春以来、新型コロナウィルスの影響により様々なコトが中止となり、人々は先の見えない不安の中で気持ちも沈みがちです。

また、イベントの中止は、花を使う機会を奪いました。草月流でも本部、個人の先生方の教室が開講を自粛し、102回続く伝統ある展覧会はじめ多くの展覧会などが悉く中止になっています。

その様な状況下で、生産者、花屋さんをはじめとする花卉業界は、大打撃を被っています。

今、いけばなの力で世界に元気を届けたい。

今、いつもお世話になっている花卉業界の皆様の力になりたい。

そんな強い思いの下にこの企画を立ち上げます。

企画に賛同して下さった皆様の思いを集めて草月流家元・勅使河原茜が、クリスマスに、グロリオーサのインスタレーションを制作し、花の力で世界にエールを送ります。

Ever since this past spring, a lot of the events have been cancelled due to COVID-19 casting a shadow of uncertainty on the people.

Cancellation of events has deprived us of the opportunities to use flowers. Even at the Sogetsu School, we chose to cancel our ikebana classes held at the headquarters and by individual teachers. Our traditional exhibition, which was supposed to mark its 102nd event this year, together with many other exhibitions, had to be put off.

Under such circumstances, the flower industry, including the producers and shops, is suffering a great loss.

That is why we want to cheer up the world with the power of ikebana.

We want to be of help to the people working for the flower industry to which we owe so much.

The strong desire urged us to start this project.

By asking for your cooperation, Akane Teshigahara, Iemoto of the Sogetsu School, will create an installation of glory lilies at Christmas season to send cheers to the world with the power of flowers.

花はいけたら、人になる。

初代家元・勅使河原蒼風のこの言葉を原点とし、「型」にとらわれず、自由にその人の個性を表現することを大切にしたいけばなの流派です。

場所や環境に限定されることなく、いつでも、どこでも、だれにでも、そしてどのような素材を使ってもいけることができるのが草月流。

時代とともに変化し、家庭のみならず、公共空間でのディスプレーや舞台美術、イベント展開など、その場ならではの創作も行い、多くの人に親しまれています。

Flowers become human in ikebana.

Sogetsu is an ikebana school respecting the above words of the first Iemoto Sofu Teshigahara. We cherish the unlimited creativity of each person without holding onto "forms." 

Sogetsu Ikebana has no restrictions in location or environment. In other words, we believe that ikebana can be arranged anytime, anywhere by anyone using any kind of materials.

With the changing times, Sogetsu Ikebana has stepped out of households to entertain a larger number of people by performing creative activities in different locations, such as displays in public space, stage art and events.

草月流の歴史（History of the Sogetsu School）

初代家元・勅使河原蒼風

1927年、初代家元・勅使河原蒼風が形式主体のいけばなに疑問を持ち、「個性」を尊重した自由な表現を求めたことから草月のいけばなは始まりました。

第二次世界大戦後のものの無い時代、それまで花器を使って床の間にいけるのが常識とされてきた中で、蒼風は、ものの美しさに着目し、急須やざる、焼け野原の瓦礫から拾ってきた鉄くずなどに使っていけ、世間を驚かせたといいます。

また、欧米各地で展覧会やデモンストレーションを精力的に行い、いけばなを世界的な文化に高めました。

さらに、その活動はいけばなに留まらず、彫刻・絵画・書と幅広い創作を最晩年まで続け、その作品はいまでも多くの分野で高い評価を受けています。

第二代家元・勅使河原霞は、蒼風に代わり精力的に海外での活動を行うとともに、ミニアチュールという極小のいけばなや、枯れもの、着色素材などを用いた独自の作風を確立。

第三代家元・勅使河原宏は、カンヌ国際映画祭で審査員特別賞を受賞した映画『砂の女』などを手掛け、映画監督としても活躍しました。さらに、陶芸や書にも才能を発揮し、ジャンルにとらわれない創作活動を晩年まで展開。90年代からは「連花（れんか）」という、新たな手法による即興創作を提唱し、いけばなの可能性を大きく広げました。

2001年、第四代家元（現家元）に就任した勅使河原茜は、自由な創造を大切に、多様化する現代空間にふさわしい新しいいけばなの可能性を追求し、舞台空間などに音や光など様々な演出を取り入れて花をいけるパフォーマンス「いけばなLIVE」を国内外各地で上演しています。

Our first Iemoto Sofu Teshigahara questioned traditional ikebana valuing formalities. He started the Sogetsu School in the quest for freer personal expression.

In the postwar days of WWII when commodities were scarce, Sofu surprised the public by creating ikebana in teapots, sieve baskets and iron scraps that he found from burnt-out ruins. Ikebana at the time was arranged in a vase with Kenzan and decorated the room where the family Buddhist alter was placed.

He also engaged himself in holding exhibitions and demonstrations in Europe and the U.S., exalting ikebana to a global culture.

His creative activities continued on to his very last days, expanding from ikebana to sculpture, drawing and calligraphy, which are still highly esteemed in various fields.

The second Iemoto Kasumi Teshigahara, who took over Sofu, expanded her creative activities overseas and established her own style of creating miniature ikebana and using dried or colored materials. 

Our third Iemoto Hiroshi Teshigahara was also a filmmaker, producing several films including Woman in the Dunes, which won the Special Jury Prize at the 1964 Cannes Film Festival. Throughout his life, Hiroshi was involved in creative activities in various fields of art, especially pottery and calligraphy. Starting in the 90s, he explored a new method of improvisational creation called Renka, expanding the potential of ikebana to a great extent. 

Akane Teshigahara, who became the fourth and current Iemoto in 2001, focuses on unlimited creativity. She pursues a new horizon of ikebana to cater to diversified modern settings. Her "Ikebana LIVE" performance, held in different parts of Japan and other countries, collaborates flower arrangement with sound and lightings on stage.

草月会員は全世界に！(Sogetsu members around the world!) 

草月流は、現在全国各都道府県に49支部（うち東京は3支部）、そして世界各地には約120の支部・スタディーグループがあり、それぞれの支部で展覧会や研究会、講習会を行うなど、会員同士が集まって様々な活動をしています。会員はいけばな指導のほか、店舗や空間にいけるフラワーク、他分野とのコラボレーションなど、アーティストとしても活躍しています。

Today, the Sogetsu School has 49 branches in Japan (out of which three branches operate in Tokyo) and about 120 branches and study groups internationally with the members of each group working together holding exhibitions, seminars and workshops. Members are also engaged in teaching ikebana and FLOWORK (a coined word combining flower and work) arranging flowers in shops and public spaces. They also work as artists in collaboration with other artists from different fields. 

草月会館のご紹介（About the Sogetsu Kaikan）

草月会館

草月流の拠点である草月会館は、日本の近代建築を牽引した建築家・丹下健三により設計され、1977年に港区・赤坂に竣工しました。

世界的なアーティスト、イサム・ノグチによる石庭や、多目的ホールを備え、いけばなはもとより、ジャンルを超えた創造活動の発信地となっています。

The Sogetsu Kaikan, the headquarters of the Sogetsu School, was designed by Kenzo Tange, a leading architect of Japanese modern architecture. It was inaugurated in 1977 in Akasaka, Minato-ku, Tokyo.

The facility features a stone garden designed by the world-renowned artist Isamu Noguchi, and a multi-purpose hall, serving as a platform for cross-genre creative activities.

新型コロナウイルスの影響（Impact of COVID-19）

草月流においては３月に予定されていたイベントの延期を皮切りに、講習会や各種イベントの延期・中止が相次ぎました。

４月７日の緊急事態宣言を受け、草月会館にて日常的に行われている各種教室も６月まで中止。

そして、毎年初夏に新宿髙島屋にて行われる草月いけばな展も中止。そして、さらに今秋に予定していた第102回草月展も、万全のコロナ対策を施した上で、WEBを活用した新しい形での開催に向けて準備を重ねてきましたが、全国的な感染拡大の状況をうけて、やむなく中止を決定いたしました。

しかし、こうして様々なイベントの中止が続き、草月会員のみならず、世界中の方々が、終わりの見えない不安の中で、気持ちの晴れない毎日を送っています。

また、生産者や生花店の方々も、本来の需要が見込めず、大きな打撃を受けています。卒業式や送別会、結婚式や様々な記念日。そんなイベントがことごとく無くなっていき、需要がなく売れ残った花が廃棄されている状況。

今、私たち草月流ができることは・・・。

そこで考えたのが、この企画です。

Starting from the events scheduled last March, Sogetsu has either postponed or cancelled workshops and events in the following months. 

Since the State of Emergency was declared on April 7, all the ikebana classes held regularly at the Sogetsu Kaikan had to be put off until June.

And the annual Sogetsu Ikebana Exhibition held in early summer at the Shinjuku Takashimaya Department Store was also cancelled. As for our 102nd Sogetsu Annual Exhibition, we were preparing to hold the event in a new format using the Internet and social media and taking adequate precautions against COVID-19. However, due to the current worsening situation within Japan, we have decided to cancel the exhibition with great regret.

Amidst the cancellation of all these events, not only the Sogetsu members but all the people around the world must be leading their lives in great uncertainty and disappointment. 

COVID-19 has brought about great impact to business as a whole. Flower producers and florists are no exception with a sharp drop in demand. All the events celebrating special occasions like graduation, farewell and weddings have been cancelled and we hear that the left-over flowers are being disposed.

What can Sogetsu do now?

And this is what we came up with.

合言葉は「Let’s be positive！」

もともとは、今年10月に開催を予定していた第102回草月いけばな展のタイトルとして考えられた言葉です。

展覧会の中止を受けても、私たちの気持ちは下を向いたままではありません。

このような状況の中だからこそ、いけばなの可能性を信じて、前向きに、今自分に出来ることを行う強い気持ちを忘れずに！花の力で、勅使河原茜が世界に向けてエールを送ります。

時期は、クリスマス。

草月流からは、12月14日から12月25日までの2週間、勅使河原は、クラウドファンディングで寄せられた皆様の思いを受け止め、自身の代名詞と言えるグロリオーサを使って、草月会館1階石庭『天国』（イサムノグチ作）にインスタレーションを制作し、その作品をHPやSNSを活用して世界に発信します。Let’s be positive!

そして、同時に「クリスマスには、自宅に花をいけよう！」と呼びかけます。

一人ひとりが花のある暮らしを実践して頂くことで、花を消費することで、今苦境を強いられている花卉業界を支援したいと思います。

たとえ今はみんなそろってイベントを開催することができなくても、私たちの思いは一つです。皆様の暖かい気持ちを集めて、グロリオーサの燃え上がるような赤で世界にエールを送りましょう！

Our watchword is "Let’s be positive!"

The phrase was originally selected as the title of our 102nd Sogetsu Annual Exhibition which was scheduled in October this year.

We should not be discouraged, however, by the cancellation of our Sogetsu Annual Exhibition.

At a time like this, we should be strong and looking ahead for things we can do now believing in the potential of ikebana! Akane Teshigahara will send cheers to the world with the power of flowers.

The event will take place during the Christmas season.

During the 2-week period from December 14 to 25, Sogetsu will exhibit the installation by Iemoto Akane using her signature glory lilies at the stone garden Heaven (by Isamu Noguchi) on the first floor of the Sogetsu Kaikan to showcase the thoughts of the crowdfunding investors. The installation will be posted on our official website and social media for people around the world. Let’s be positive!

At the same time, we will ask you to arrange flowers at home at Christmas time.

We will be able to support the devastated flower industry if each one of us practice a lifestyle with flowers and consume flowers in our daily life.

Though we are unable to get together for events, we share the same thought. Let's gather our heartfelt wishes and encourage the world with the burning red color of glory lilies!

私たちははるか昔から花を友とし、花から癒しや力をもらいながら生きてきました。

コロナ禍の今、誰もが先の見えない不安を抱き、緊張を強いられて生活しています。いけばなに携わる私たちにとって大切なパートナーである花の生産者、販売者の皆さんもコロナウィルス感染拡大によるイベント自粛のために大きな打撃を受け苦しんでいます。

今はたくさんの人がリアルに集う展覧会の開催は困難な状況ですが、このコロナの時代にふさわしい新しいいけばなのかたちで花卉業界にエールを送り、花に秘められた無限のパワーで世界に元気と笑顔をお届けしたいと思います。

From time immemorial, we have befriended flowers, receiving comfort and power from them. Now with the COVID-19 pandemic, we all feel as if we are in a dark tunnel living each day under tension. Flower producers and distributors, our esteemed partners, are no exception. They are suffering a great loss from suspended events in the spread of the pandemic. For the time being, we are unable to gather physically for exhibitions. However, we are delighted to be able to cheer up the flower industry in a novel way as part of adjusting to the New Norm and send out infinite power of flowers to brighten up the world and make people smile.

寄せられたご支援で作品に使用するグロリオーサを購入し、生花の売り上げに貢献することで、花卉業界を応援します。

Your investment will be used to purchase glory lilies for Iemoto's work, which will result in contributing to the sales of flowers and supporting the flower business.

The installation showcasing your thoughts will be a symbol of encouragement to the world.

Iemoto's ikebana work will not only be displayed on site but posted on our website and social media. This will avoid the 3Cs (closed spaces, crowded places, and close-contact settings) and provide an environment where people from all over the world can visit and enjoy the ikebana.

想定されるリスクとチャレンジ(Estimated risks and challenges)

新型コロナウイルスの感染拡大状況やその他天災等の影響により、ご来場いただく皆様の安全のため、やむを得ず作品の展示を延期する可能性があります。万が一開催延期が決定した場合、HP及びMotionGallery内のメール機能により、ご支援いただいた皆様に速やかにご連絡を差し上げますので、予めご了承下さい。また、延期となった日程に合わせて、HPやSNSでの作品の配信は行います。

この度のクラウドファンディングは「新型コロナウイルスに起因する中止・延期イベント支援プログラム」を利用させていただいております。もしいただいたご支援が目標額に届かなかった場合でも、企画は続行予定ですが、規模を縮小させていただく可能性がございます。

また、目標額を超える支援が集まった場合でも、ご支援はすべて作品の花材費に使用させていただきます。

Depending on the spread of COVID-19 pandemic or other natural disasters, we may have to reschedule the exhibit of the ikebana work for the safety of the visitors. If by any chance the event has to be put off, we will make an announcement on our website and contact the supporters as soon as possible by the mailing function within Motion Gallery. We thank you, in advance, for your kind understanding. The installation will still be posted on our website and social media according to the rescheduled dates.

This crowdfunding is part of the "Support Program for Events Cancelled or Postponed due to COVIC-19 Pandemic." Even if your support does not reach our goal, this project will be held but may have to be downsized in scale.   

And if your support exceeds our goal, the total amount will still be used to purchase materials for Iemoto's work.

・Although we plan to use glory lilies for the ikebana, other materials could be added depending on the situation of the producers. 

さいごに（Closing）

新型コロナウイルスの感染拡大により、世界はいまだかつてない危機に直面しています。「こんな時に、いけばななんて」と思われる方もいらっしゃるでしょう。

初代家元・勅使河原蒼風は、第二次世界大戦後の焼け野原から鉄くずや野花や野草などを拾ってきては、新しい作品をつくったといいます。もちろん「こんな大変な時代に、いけばななんて」という視線もあったと思います。

しかし、そんな蒼風に刺激を受け、「よし、自分も立ち上がろう」と感じた人も、たくさんいたはずです。

たとえ一輪の花であってもその心のゆとりは、何事にも替え難い芳しさ持って私たちの生活を満たしてくれます。

こんな時だからこそ、いけばなを！

人の心に感情や、感覚、個性といったものがあるように、花にも美しい魂があります。それは、人々の心を慰めもし、また人の心を伝え、人の心に代わって、その人の喜びや憂いさえも表現してくれます。

いけばなで世界に元気を届けたい！

Now with the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, the world faces an unprecedented crisis. Some may say, "Why ikebana now when all of us are suffering?"

Our first Iemoto Sofu Teshigahara was known for making novel works out of metal scraps and wild flowers that he found from the rubble of the city after World War II. He must have faced criticism from people saying, "Why ikebana now when everyone's struggling?"

And yet, at the same time, there must have been many people who were inspired by Sofu and gained strength to stand up again.

The peace of mind a flower can bring to our life with its fragrance is something that cannot be replaced.

Ikebana makes a difference at a time like this!

Just as people have emotions, feelings and individual characters, flowers, too, have beautiful anima. Flowers comfort people’s hearts, convey people's feelings and express their joy and sorrow on their behalf.

Sending cheers to the world through ikebana!
