Good evening everyone, this is Green One's public relations.

今回はみなさまに知ってほしい地球の現状について少し話をします。

This time, I would like to talk a little about the current state of the earth we would like you to know.

真水の割合はわずか2.5％ほど The proportion of freshwater is only about 2.5%

地球は青く輝く水の星だと言われています。ただその大半は塩水で、淡水は全体の水の2.5％ほどしかありません。

The earth is said to be a star of water that shines blue. However, most of it is salt water, and freshwater accounts for only about 2.5% of the total water.

また淡水の約4分の3は凍結をして存在しており、人類や生き物が利用できるように水資源は、思いの外少なく点在をしています。

Besides, about three-quarters of freshwater exists frozen, and water resources are unexpectedly scattered so that humans and living things can use it.

深刻な水不足の北アフリカと中東地域 North Africa and the Middle East with severe water shortages

国土交通省水資源問題の原因によると、近年の深刻さを増している地域は、北アフリカとと中東地域です。

According to the cause of the water resources problem of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism, the regions that have become more serious in recent years are North Africa and the Middle East.

砂漠が多く乾燥した場所が多いこれらの地域に住む人々は従来から水不足と戦ってきました。

People living in these areas, often desert and dry, have traditionally been fighting water scarcity.

中には集落より数時間もかけ水を求める人もいます。

Some people spend hours from the village seeking water.

またその水は決して日本の水道水のような安全な水ではなく、水に起因をする病気の危険を常にはらんでいます。

Moreover, the water is not as safe as tap water in Japan, and there is always a risk of illness caused by water.

これに加えこれらの地域の他にも真水を得にくくなっている海に面した諸島部も人口に対する水は、不足する傾向です。

In addition to these areas, the islands facing the sea, where freshwater is difficult to obtain, also tend to lack water for the population.

現在は塩水を真水にかえる技術もありますが、

Currently, there is a technology to change saltwater to freshwater,

問題は、これだけでは解決をしません。

This alone does not solve the problem.

その大きな理由は地球温暖化です。

The main reason is global warming.

本日、1月17日は阪神淡路大震災から26年です。6,434名の尊い命に心から哀悼の意を表します。

Today, January 17th, is 26 years since the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. We want to express our deepest condolences to the precious lives of 6,434 people.

起こった震災により、生活のライフラインが寸断され、水はなんとか給水車にて配られました。

Because of the earthquake that happened, the lifeline was shut down, and the water was managed for distribution by water trucks.

当時などの取材にて、給水車まで行くのにも徒歩で10分や20分、それから長い行列ができていたと聞きます。実は地震国の日本は、ライフラインの寸断にて、上下水が止まってしまうと途端に、水を得にくくなる国でもあります。

I heard from interviews at that time that it took 10 or 20 minutes on foot to get to the water truck, and then there was a long line. In fact, Japan, an earthquake-prone country, is also a country where it becomes difficult to obtain water as soon as water and sewage stop due to the disruption of lifelines.
