このプロジェクトは、ダムタイプ初期のパフォーマンス「睡眠の計画(1984年)」と「庭園の黄昏 - (1985年)」の為に山中透と古橋悌二が制作した音楽を収録したカセット・ブック作品2作品をレコード化するプロジェクトです

2023年10月に実施し、一時中止していた「山中透・古橋悌二／ダムタイプ 初期音楽作品レコード化プロジェクト」クラウドファンディング企画は、改めてダムタイプの承認を得て再開されます。リターン品のヴァリエーションも変更されていますが、引き続きのご支援のほどお願い申し上げます。

このプロジェクトは、山中透と古橋悌二がダムタイプ（DUMB TYPE）の初期パフォーマンス作品「睡眠の計画 - Plan For Sleep (1984年)」と「庭園の黄昏 - Every Dog Has His Day (1985年)」のために制作した非常に希少なカセットブック2作品を、初めてレコードとして復刻するプロジェクトです。

This project aims to reissue, for the first time on vinyl, two extremely rare cassette book works created by toru yamanaka and teiji furuhashi for DUMB TYPE's early performance pieces "Plan For Sleep" (1984) and "Every Dog Has His Day" (1985).

ダムタイプは、京都を拠点とする先駆的なパフォーマンス・アート・グループで、1980年代に設立されました。ダムタイプは、舞台芸術、テクノロジー、映像、音楽、パフォーマンスアートの要素を融合させ、先進的なインターメディア作品を制作してきました。グループの創立メンバーには、主要な芸術家やテクノロジー、舞台装置の専門家が含まれており、彼らの作品はその革新的なアプローチと多様なメディアの統合によって注目されました。2019年、東京都現代美術館で大規模な展覧会「ダムタイプ｜アクション＋リフレクション」が行われたことも記憶に新しいです。

Dumb Type, founded in the 1980s and based in Kyoto, is a pioneering performance art group. They are internationally renowned for integrating elements of theater, technology, visuals, music, and performance art to create innovative intermedia works. The founding members include prominent artists, technologists, and stage set specialists - and the group’s works have garnered attention for their innovative approaches and integration of diverse multimedia. In 2019, a significant retrospective exhibition titled "Dumb Type | Action + Reflection" was held at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo.

ダムタイプは、テクノロジーと身体、ジェンダーやセクシャリティ、HIVをめぐる問題、国境、情報化社会などのテーマに焦点を当て、視覚的な驚きと知覚に訴える作品を提供しました。代表作品には、「S/N」、「pH」、「OR」、「Voyage」などがあり、音楽、映像、パフォーマンスアートが融合した先駆的な作品たちは、国際的に高く評価されました。国内外で数々の公演を行い、現代アートの分野で重要な役割を果たしました。彼らの作品は、美術と身体パフォーマンスとテクノロジーの交差点で、現在に至るまで新しい表現の可能性を模索し続けています。

Dumb Type has focused on themes such as technology and the body, gender and sexuality, HIV/AIDS, borders, and the information society, offering visually stunning and perceptually engaging works. Representative works like "S/N," "pH," "OR," and "Voyage," - which blend music, visuals, and performance art - have been highly acclaimed internationally. The group has performed extensively both domestically and internationally, playing a significant role in the field of contemporary art. Their works continue to explore new possibilities in artistic expression at the intersection of visual arts, body performance, and technology.

このプロジェクトは、活動初期ダムタイプの音楽面を担った山中透と故・古橋悌二による共同制作の2作品にフォーカスし、いままで十分に紹介されているとは言い難い彼らの初期の音楽的アプローチの歴史的な価値と魅力を後世に伝えるものです。1995年に古橋悌二がHIV感染による敗血症で亡くなった後、テクニカルとして「S/N」に参加していた池田亮司を新たな音楽監督として迎え、その後のダムタイプのサウンドを確立させていくことになりますが、このプロジェクトはそれ以前の初期活動期の舞台音楽に焦点を当てています。

This project focuses on the collaborative works of Toru Yamanaka and the late Teiji Furuhashi - the duo responsible for the musical direction during the early years of Dumb Type. These retrospective releases of their works aim to convey the historical value and charm of their early musical approach, which has remained largely undocumented to the present time. After Furuhashi's death due to compilations from HIV in 1995 - Ryuji Ikeda, who had been involved technically in the work "S/N," joined Dumb Type as the new music director, shaping the group’s sound thereafter. However, this project seeks to highlight Yamanaka and Furuhashi’s foundational musical contributions to Dumb Type vis-à-vis their works for stage during the early years of the group.

今回、レコードして復刻する山中透と古橋悌二による共同制作2作品「睡眠の計画 - Plan For Sleep (1984年)」と「庭園の黄昏 - Every Dog Has His Day (1985年)」は、ダムタイプの音楽の重要な礎となりました。その初期の舞台音楽は、独自の魅力と革新性を持ち、彼らのアートの核における不可欠な要素でした。このプロジェクトを通じて、彼らの遺産が再評価され、ダムタイプのサウンドの進化に先立つ音楽のエッセンスが、新たな世代にも紹介されることを目的としています。

The two works which comprise this retrospective release project - "Plan for Sleep” (1984) and "Every Dog Has His Day” (1985) - are collaborations between Yamanaka and Furuhashi which were foundational to the music development of Dumb Type's aural legacy and intermedia innovations at large. Their early stage music possessed a unique charm and innovation, serving as an essential element at the core of their art. Through this project, the legacy of these works is to be re-evaluated, and the essence of the music contributing to the evolution of Dumb Type's sound through this day will be introduced to a new generation.

本プロジェクトは下北沢のレコード・ショップpianola recordsを母体とするレーベルconatalaの企画となります。当レーベルは2020年発足以来、80年代富山伝説のユニットPale Cocoonのカセット・ブック作品「繭」のLP/CD復刻を皮切りに、World StandardがNon-Standardからデビューする以前の貴重なデモ・テープ「Asagao」のLP復刻や、大阪の電子音楽家7FOのLP作品「蘭 - 茫天」、カセット・テープ作品「Homemade Insipirations」など、リリース当時には日の目を見なかった発掘音源から現行のオルタナティヴなインディペンデント・ミュージックの制作と出版をしています。

<Planning and Production / conatala>
This project is conceived by the label conatala, which is rooted in the record shop pianola records in Shimokitazawa. Since its establishment in 2020, the label has been involved in various productions and publications in the realm of alternative independent music. It started with the reissue of the cassette book "Mayu" by the 80s legendary unit from Toyama, Pale Cocoon, on LP/CD. Subsequently, they have undertaken projects such as the reissue of the LP "Asagao," a rare demo tape by World Standard prior to their debut on Non-Standard, as well as LP works like "Ran - Bouten" and cassette tape works like "Homemade Inspirations" by the electronic musician 7FO from Osaka. These releases include unearthed recordings that never saw the light of day during their original release, contributing to the current alternative independent music scene.

夏の大△のメンバーであり、日用品や電子デバイスを組み合わせ音や光の干渉に着目したサウンド・インスタレーションで知られる音楽家の大城真。自主レーベルBasic Functionの運営や、レコーディング/マスタリング・エンジニアとしてはエッジィな実験音楽からシンガー・シングライター作品まで手掛けています。最近ではYCAMで開催しているAudio Base Campのキュレーションまで東京とベルリンを行き来しながら多様な活動を展開している。

Makoto Oshiro, a member of sound art group The Great Triangle, is known for his sound installations that focus on the interference of sound and light by combining everyday items and electronic devices. 収録されるのは、山中/古橋がダムタイプ以前に組んでいたバンドR-STILLの楽曲2曲です。のちのダムタイプ初期の音楽作品を予感させるものであり、また1981~83年の当時の作品としてはあまりに早すぎた、そして当時は世に出ることのなかった驚愕の音源です。

7-inch Vinyl Record:
This record contains two songs from the band R-STILL, composed of Yamanaka and Furuhashi and pre-dating the formation of Dumb Type. These tracks provide a glimpse of the early music that would later characterize Dumb Type's work from this era, and they are remarkable recordings from the early 1980s that were ahead of their time and never before released to the public.

想定される経費について
Estimated Expenses:

初回生産1000枚のレコードを2タイトル、海外工場にて製造します。レコード製造費、海外工場からの配送料、プロダクトのデザイン、リマスタリング、リターン品の製作費など、これら必要経費に手数料を加えて目標金額を280万円と設定しています。

We plan to produce 1000 copies of each record (2000 total) for our initial production run, manufactured at an overseas factory. This includes expenses for record manufacturing, shipping, product design, remastering, production costs for return items, and associated fees. We have set a target amount of 2.8 million yen, inclusive of these necessary expenses and fees.

去年行われた「山中透・古橋悌二／ダムタイプ 初期音楽作品復刻プロジェクト メモラビリア展」第2弾が大阪で開催。この展示は、山中透と古橋悌二による初期のダムタイプ音楽活動の功績を振り返り、カセットブック作品「睡眠の計画(1985)」「庭園の黄昏(1986)」の2作品を初めてレコードとして復刻するconatala/pianola recordsと、山中透の新作リリースを控えるEM Records(エム・レコード)による共同企画のメモラビリア展です。

展示では、ダムタイプ以前に山中/古橋が組んでいたバンドR-STILL時代から初期ダムタイプのフライヤー、ポスター、記事、制作メモなど、滅多に見ることのできない貴重なアート・ピースやオリジナルのカセットブック作品が展示されます。東京での展示には間に合わなかった追加の資料も展示される予定です。

さらに、会場限定CD toru yamanaka「Collection Of Early Works 1982-86 (Demo Recordings & R-STILL)」も販売されますので、前回ご来場いただいた方もぜひお越しくださいませ。

展示は4月6日（土）から4月20日（土）まで、大阪のDELIに併設されたギャラリーで開催されます。平日のランチ営業時にはギャラリーが閲覧できませんが、ランチ営業後の15時からギャラリーが開放されますので予めご了承ください。

また、展示初日にはDELI店内で山中透によるソロ・ライヴ & トーク・イベントが開催されますので、ぜひご参加ください。

今回のプロジェクトはプロダクションファンディング(All in)での挑戦となるため、もし目標金額未達となった場合でも、不足分を自費で賄いながら必ずレコード化を実現します。またリターン品の準備も既に進めております。商品は必ずお届けしますので、ご安心くださいませ。

This project entails a challenge in terms of production funding (All in). Even if the target amount is not reached, we will ensure the realization of pressing record by covering any shortfall from our own funds. We are also already progressing with the preparation of return items. Rest assured, we will deliver the goods without fail.

レコードのプロダクト・デザイン、または音源のアナログ用マスタリングなど既に進んでおり、クラウドファンディングが終了した後、2024年8月下旬頃からレコードのプレス工程に進みます。入稿から約3ヶ月で完成するスケジュールです。テスト・プレスの仕上がりをみて調整する必要があれば遅れが出る可能性がありますが、何も問題なければ2024年11月頃に発売見込みです。

The product design for the records and analog mastering of the audio sources are already underway. After the crowdfunding campaign concludes, we aim to move forward to press around late August 2024. This schedule allows for approximately three months from submission to completion. While there may be potential delays if adjustments are needed based on the completion of the test pressings - if everything goes smoothly - we anticipate releasing around November 2024.
